Lionel Messi’s goal in the second half helped Paris Saint-Germain secure a 2-1 victory over Toulouse and extend their lead at the top of the French league to eight points on Saturday. The legendary player curled in a stunning strike in the 57th minute after a combination play with Morocco’s right back, Achraf Hakimi. Hakimi had earlier equalized for PSG, who were missing forwards Kylian Mbappé and Neymar, after Toulouse took the lead in the 20th with a free kick from Branco van den Boomen. Mbappé is out for three weeks with a thigh injury, while Neymar is undergoing treatment for a sore adductor and missed his second consecutive game. Portugal’s Renato Sanches was also forced to leave the game early due to a thigh injury. PSG had lost two and drawn one of their last five matches before this victory. In other late games, Rennes faced Lille at home, and inconsistent Lyon played against Troyes. Marseille must beat Nice on Sunday to stay five points behind PSG before their Feb 26 showdown.
