The Mob Reporter here news of a fresh wave of heat on Abdellah El Haj Sadek El Menbri, a 38-year-old Moroccan wanted in Spain, where he’s lived most his life, and where his big smile, loads of dough, nickname and wild exploits seize public attention.
Police consider El Haj the most significant hashish smuggler in southern Europe, saying his high-powered speedboats whip from Africa to Europe across the Strait of Gibraltar, where Europe’s south coast is less than nine miles from Africa’s north coast, with Spain on one side and Morocco on the other. El Haj was born poor in 1983 in Tangier and moved with his family to Spain and grew up in Algeciras. He was put on Europe’s Most Wanted list of fugitive gangsters by Europol, the European police agency, seeking public help tracking him down. #TrueCrime
