When asked about his early days to his former neighbour, she says – “He spent his time playing football, but always with his companions, always surrounded by friends. They went to play in all the games. But, he was a charming kid. And intelligent, but always shy, always humble”.

Lionel Andrés « Leo » Messi Cuccittini’s, popularly known as Lionel Messi, is the Argentinian football icon of millions of youngsters and soccer lovers from across the globe. Born on 24 June 1987, his tremendous success and contribution to the world of football is renowned. The legendary player kick-started his career at a tender age of 16, even after suffering from a certain hormone deficiency restricting his growth. He currently plays for the Spanish club FC Barcelona along with being the captain of the Argentina national team.

Messi’s fabulous kicks and skills in the game made him break several world records. He first led Argentina in the under-20 World Cup title against Nigeria followed by achieving the FIFA « World Player of the Year » honour/Ballon d’Or award. In 2005, Leo also found himself on the record books for being the youngest player to score for Barcelona. The champion initially enhanced his skills in every match and became the primary face of his nation. By age 24, Messi became the top scorer in all official club competitions of Barcelona. The soccer legend was just 27 when he scored his 400th senior career goal for the club.

Widely recognised as the best player and rated as the greatest footballer of all time, Messi is the first to win four FIFA/Ballons d’Or in a consecutive manner as well as three European Golden Shoe awards. He has achieved six La Ligas, two Copas del Rey, six Supercopas de España, three UEFA Champions Leagues, two UEFA Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups with club Barcelona. Messi’s amazing creativity and skills on the pitch are what led Argentina win the FIFA U-20 World Cup of 2005 and ended both as the best player and the top scorer. Messi became the youngest player of Argentina to play and score in the FIFA World Cup in 2006. His impressive style of playing drew a lot of comparisons with Diego Maradona who later himself declared Messi his “successor”.

Along with Messi’s incredible status on the football pitch, he is also one adorable man in the romantic front. He has been linked with several beautiful ladies including Macarena Lemos and Luciana Salazar and later becoming the father of Thiago with girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo. The soccer master has also appeared for several renowned companies like Turkish Airlines, Scalp-D, Samsung and Gillette. In addition to these, Messi was announced as a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF on 11 March 2010 and has established the “Leo Messi Foundation” in 2007 that aims to educate and provide health care to vulnerable children.
